THE ORIGINS OF THE RACE
Founded in 2005, the eponymous organization, Ultra Marin du Morbihan, aimed to allow athletes to run races in one of the most beautiful gulfs in the world. It was therefore in the heart of Morbihan, off the Atlantic Ocean, that this event was born. Today renowned as one of the most prestigious sporting events in France. Since then, every year in June, male and female runners come together to traverse, for one day a year, the magnificent landscapes of Brittany.
Notably, by passing through symbolic places such as the old Bono suspension bridge and its splendid view of the river. But also, by crossing small villages typical of the region. Such as Saint-Goustan and Pen Castel, up to the finish line in the port of Vannes. The vegetation and the sea also contribute to making this race an unforgettable experience.
Today, L’Ultra Marin Raid Golfe du Morbihan® takes both novice runners and seasoned athletes on an adventure by allowing them to discover or rediscover this region. Over the years, the event has diversified, now offering nearly 9 races for young and old. Ranging from the shortest, the "Course des P’tits Marins" of 100m intended for the youngest among us. To the mythical "Grand Raid" of 175km.
THE DIFFERENT RACES OF THE ULTRA MARIN RAID GOLFE DU MORBIHAN®
In order to open the doors of the Gulf of Morbihan to more participants, L’Ultra Marin® therefore offers routes adapted to everyone. Solo or in a team, beginner or experienced, you have the possibility to register for these different challenges, each more exciting than the last.
To start, the youngest runners can take off on the "Course des P’tits Marins". Several sprints of 100m, 200m and 300m are aimed at little sailors aged 3 to 10 years.
Next, we find the Swim & Run. This event, dedicated to an older audience, asks participants to alternate between swimming and running sequences. The routes are 8.45km, 14.2km or 22.4km long. Then, Nordic Walking enthusiasts can come to walk the paths of Brittany on a 29km route. This itinerary will allow walkers to enjoy sublime landscapes, as well as the elevation gain offered by the Atlantic coasts.
Finally, some participants will have the chance to try their hand at routes dedicated to runners. Among them we find: the 34km long Douaniers Walk, the 56km trail, the 100km Raid, the Grand Défi Solidaire, the Grand Relais and the Grand Raid, all three being 175km long.
Thus, all running lovers will be able to find the great challenge that suits them, in the heart of one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
THE SPECIFICITIES OF THE EVENT
Like all other races, the location of the event brings a few specificities to consider before the big start. The climate is one of the variables to anticipate in your preparation. Indeed, by running by the sea, you will be led to encounter cool winds on your way. From the front, from the side or even from behind, this breeze can lower your body temperature during the race. Which could affect your performance over time. Precipitation can also occur during the event. Especially if you choose to run the very long distance routes offered by L’Ultra Marin Raid Golf du Morbihan®.
This is why we invite you to plan clothing adapted to running in these weather conditions. More precisely, trail clothing that allows you to regulate your body temperature. You will be sheltered from the rain and wind if needed thanks to this equipment.
Also, the majority of the paths you will take will be natural. To run more easily on soft ground, you will need to adapt your shoes to avoid joint injuries along the way.
Finally, the races offered by L’Ultra Marin® have a positive elevation gain of several dozen meters. You will therefore be led to take certain paths that will require good stability from you.
